Roberto Paganoni talks to “Impuls” about LGT Capital Partners
Roberto Paganoni, CEO of LGT Capital Partners, recently spoke with “Impuls” – a business magazine published in our home canton of Schwyz in Switzerland – about the origins of LGT Capital Partners and the reasons for the firm's sustained growth over the last 25 years.
Paganoni describes the firm's journey as follows: “We were fortunate to enter this market when it was still in its infancy. This enabled us to grow over time.” Impuls writes that a partnership approach is at the heart of the firm's philosophy as a principal investor, as it always invests its own capital in new investment strategies first. Only if an investment proves successful it is then opened up to clients. This approach, combined with a long-term perspective, builds trust, according to Paganoni: “The Princely Family never sought to make as much money as possible as quickly as possible. Accordingly, it does not think in quarters, but in generations.” At the same time, LGT Capital Partners manages risk prudently so that it can weather difficult times on the financial markets well, Impuls reports. “Ultimately, this has earned us a good reputation as an investor,” says Paganoni.
He also provides an insight into LGT Capital Partners’ corporate culture. “You won't find any staff members who want to be in the spotlight at our firm,” he says. “That's not our style.” He explains that the focus is on engaging with one another in a fair, collaborative and respectful manner – values that shape the firm's actions. “We are a 'we' firm, not an 'I' firm, ” he concludes.
