Principal Investor Perspectives discusses US politics and puts ILS in the spotlight

15 January 2025

The first issue of the quarterly Principal Investor Perspectives publication in 2025 looks at how optimism about Donald Trump’s policies and a resilient US economy has revived bullish sentiment and investor positioning following the November election. It also examines how insurance-linked strategies (ILS) provide uncorrelated returns by transferring natural catastrophe risks to capital markets, enhancing diversification and stability.

In this edition of the publication, LGT Capital Partners’ economists look at the agenda of the new Trump Administration and its potential economic impacts. Their baseline scenario remains constructive but they take policy risks and possible sentiment disruptions into account by adopting a neutral stance on equities. In addition, the economists focus on geopolitical tensions and what they mean for the firm’s investment approach.

Principal Investor Perspectives also takes a closer look at ILS. It discusses the advantages of this asset class in an environment of rising catastrophe risks, stricter regulations and expanding capital markets. As a key component of LGT Capital Partners’ asset allocation, ILS has contributed to diversification through uncorrelated risk premia, helping to reduce portfolio risk – especially during periods of market stress.
