ESG Report 2026 – LGT Capital Partners sees a shift towards more pragmatic ESG integration

10 September 2026

LGT Capital Partners today published its ESG Report 2026, which examines how ESG practices are evolving across private and public markets and how the broader market environment is influencing ESG integration. The report brings together the firm’s annual ESG manager assessments and the findings from its ESG Survey 2026 and it provides an update on its corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities.

LGT Capital Partners has more than 20 years of experience in integrating ESG considerations into investment processes. Its annual manager assessments, conducted systematically for more than 13 years, evaluate the ESG practices of the managers that the firm invests with across private and public markets and allow it to track how these practices evolve over time. In addition, the ESG Survey 2026 provides a broader external perspective, drawing on responses from 191 asset managers, asset owners and advisors across different regions and asset classes.

Key findings presented in the ESG Report 2026 include:

  • Manager assessments: more than 400 managers were assessed across private and public markets in 2026. In private markets, ESG integration is becoming more established across investment processes, ownership and reporting. Climate remains the environmental topic that is considered most frequently by managers, while biodiversity is becoming more visible in manager policies and assessment processes. In public markets, the picture is more varied, reflecting differences in ESG integration across investment strategies and asset classes.
  • ESG Survey 2026: the survey findings point to a clear distinction between sentiment and implementation. While 65% of respondents say ESG sentiment has become more negative in their primary region, 92% maintained or increased their ESG commitments. A total of 77% of respondents say the importance of ESG in their investment decision-making has not changed.
  • More pragmatic ESG integration: the survey identified a sizeable group of “recalibrators” who continue to integrate ESG but are reassessing where it is most relevant, how it should be applied and how it is communicated. Overall, the findings suggest that changes in ESG sentiment have affected language and positioning more visibly than underlying investment processes, with a greater emphasis being placed on materiality, risk management, data quality, client expectations and long-term value creation.
  • Corporate social responsibility: LGT Capital Partners continued to develop its CSR framework across People, Community, Suppliers and Buildings. Over the past year, the firm launched the LGT Capital Partners Donors Community, advanced its sustainable procurement approach and introduced new tools to improve transparency around business travel emissions.

Tycho Sneyers, Managing Partner at LGT Capital Partners and member of the PRI Board commented:

“Looking ahead, we expect responsible investing to become more selective, more evidence based and more closely linked to financial materiality. The focus will increasingly be on data quality, investment relevance and credible implementation. At LGT Capital Partners, we regard this as a natural evolution of responsible investing and an important part of our commitment to serving our clients’ long-term interests.”
