LGT Capital Partners’ long-held commitment to ESG began in 2003, when we started integrating a responsible investment clause into the governing documents of our investment programs.

  • In 2009, LGT Capital Partners launched its dedicated sustainable bond and equity offerings, leveraging our newly developed proprietary ESG analytics tool, the LGT ESG Cockpit.
  • Since 2013, LGT Capital Partners has published its annual ESG Report. Each year, we assess the activities of several hundred alternative investment managers worldwide to identify examples and trends in best practice in private markets, liquid alternatives, insurance-linked securities, equities and bonds.
  • The firm became an early signatory to the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) in 2008. In 2018, one of the firm’s Managing Partners, Tycho Sneyers, was elected to the PRI board, and was re-elected for a second term in 2021.
  • LGT Capital Partners joined the Net Zero Asset Manager initiative in 2021 and has set clear climate action goals for the firm and our investments to achieve net zero by 2050.

Embedding ESG into our business

LGT Capital Partners' commitment to ESG is a reflection of our core values. We embed ESG principles in our organization through various initiatives, as shown below. Many of our initiatives are rooted in the ultimate belief that sustainable investing is an integral part of supporting clients over the long run.

  • Joined the Net Zero Asset Managers initiative in March 2021 and have committed to transparent and rigorous accountability. In 2022, we disclosed the proportion of assets to be managed in line with net zero, the methodology to measure our performance against the targets of the Paris Agreement and interim targets for emission reductions
  • Commitment to procure materials produced in an environmentally and socially responsible manner, using a systematic supplier risk management framework

  • Our Executive Committee has made Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) one of the firm’s top priorities, focusing on both our own team and our investments
  • Extensive offering of internal and external education, including the LGT Academy, an innovative program focused on personal development
  • Support staff who wish to volunteer in their communities through the LGT Staff Volunteering Program and with paid days off

  • Commitment to transparency by making our accounts publicly available, even though we are privately held
  • Rigorous commitment to a written code of conduct that ensures high ethical standards
  • Well-defined separation of powers in the governance structure, with appropriate checks and balances between the Board of Trustees and various management boards

"For several years now, LGT has used its position as a leading investor to bring about a stronger focus on social and environmental values, especially in alternative asset classes."
