Brooke Zhou featured in Secondaries Investor podcast on Asia Pacific private equity market
A new podcast from Secondaries Investor turns the spotlight on Asia Pacific and discusses whether it is the most promising secondary market at present, with some of the most innovative transactions coming from the region. Brooke Zhou, Partner at LGT Capital Partners, explains how deal flow has evolved over the past decade and highlights the diversity of the region.
In the podcast, Brooke comments that she saw the years 2014 and 2015 as an inflection point: investors in the Asia Pacific region had been investing in private equity for some time, transaction volumes were increasing and the need for liquidity was maturing. At the same time, secondaries were becoming more prevalent and accepted.
According to Brooke, people tend to bucket countries in Asia together, especially if they live far away from the region. She points out that each market is, in fact, very different. Brooke also says that she is currently seeing a lot of deals coming out of developing markets such as China and India, while developed markets such as Japan and Australia are more focused on buyouts, hence there is less deal flow on a relative basis because liquidity is less of an issue there.
