At the UK Pensions Awards held in London at the beginning of May, representatives of the major UK pension schemes singled out LGT Capital Partners as the ESG/SRI Provider of the Year. Eight investment managers were in the running for the award in this category, which has been recognizing achievement in the area of ESG since 2012.
The UK Pensions Awards rank among the financial industry’s most prestigious accolades for institutional investors, with investment managers judged across 31 different categories by a panel of experienced pension fund representatives. There has been an award for the top SRI/ESG provider since 2012. In making their selection in the respective categories, the judges seek out the providers that have delivered the highest level of innovation, the strongest performance and the best service to pension funds.
LGT Capital Partners impressed the judges with its long-standing, systematic commitment to ESG, especially in alternative investments. This was underpinned by a recent survey conducted by LGT Capital Partners together with the consulting firm Mercer, which asked institutional investors in 22 countries whether and how they incorporate ESG considerations in their investment decisions for alternative asset classes. This was the first such survey of its kind. The judges also praised LGT Capital Partners' demonstrated commitment to client service, including advising a pension fund on developing its ESG process, as well as providing investors with reporting on the integration of ESG criteria within portfolios. The jury also highlighted the ongoing evolution of the "ESG Cockpit", a system developed by LGT Capital Partners that makes it possible to conduct a thorough analysis of listed companies with respect to ESG factors.
In addition, the award recognizes the work of LGT Venture Philanthropy, which launched a UK-focused impact investment fund, IVUK, during the award period. The fund follows a venture capital approach to investing for social good and is currently invested with four social enterprises in the UK.
"We are very pleased that the UK Pension Awards recognizes our commitment and efforts to make ESG an integral part of our investment activities. This award is especially meaningful to us as UK pension funds have played a leading role in pushing the ESG agenda globally," said Tycho Sneyers, ESG Committee Chairman and Managing Partner at LGT Capital Partners.
